Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation refers to the additional melanin made by the skin. The skin produces these melanocytes when it needs to protect itself from factors such as: sun exposure, inflammation, acne and skin injuries. Pigmentation can also occur due to genetics and hormonal influences.

At Dr Karolia we have a broad range of treatments to assist in decreasing the appearance of your pigmentation. Pigmentation takes time to form and treatment is a journey along with religious medical grade homecare.

Acne

A skin condition that occurs when there is over production of oil, build-up of bacteria and dead skin cells. The pores become clogged with said oil, bacteria and dead skin cells resulting in whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. These symptoms can be painful and affect one’s confidence.

Acne is common mostly in teenagers, but we’re seeing an increase in adult acne which is usually due to hormonal imbalances. Dr Karolia specialises in treating the root cause of one’s illness and has a high success rate.

RESULTS

As we grow older it’s only natural to develop fine lines and wrinkles. As we age there is a breakdown of collagen and elastin, along with our body producing less collagen as we grow older and in turn affecting our skin laxity.

Where the skin moves repeatedly creases and indentations form such as forehead lines and crows feet.

The eyes move over 100 000 times a day according to Nature Neuroscience psychologist Martin Rolfs.

Additionally the skin around our eyes is about 40% thinner thus the lines are easily formed around the eye area.

There are many causes of ageing and accelerated ageing such as:

  • Sun exposure/photo-ageing is the main factor.
  • UVA and UVB rays account for 80% of all extrinsic ageing.
  • The lightwaves can damage your kerinocytes as well as other skin cells reducing your skin’s natural elasticity and promoting the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
  • Lifestyle – diet, lack of exercise, smoking
